About This Site

What this site is for

There are several goals I want to accomplish for this site.

Archiving Whether or Not a User Owns a Product on Different Formats/Platforms/Versions Etc.

The first is that I want to be able to have an archive of different products and whether or not the person actually owns the product itself. Plenty of products now be it software, video games, electronics, appliances, automotives, or even batteries, are potentially subject to DRM or digital locks. I’m not a fan of this “You will own nothing and be happy” future that companies want us to have. Thus, I believe having an archive of product information based on the format or version of a product is necessary to fight against this mentality.

Additionally, I want to archive what will be available for different products that have online functionality to them. For instance, if a game can still be playable after online multiplayer servers are no longer available to be played on.

What makes this different from the Consumer Rights Wiki?

I am a fan of Louis Rossman and his channel on YouTube. The Consumer Rights Wiki and the Stop Killing Games movement were major inspirations for creating this site.

The Consumer Rights Wiki is focused on keeping track of all the bad practices that corporations and different companies have with their consumer practices. The goal in terms of ownership with GoMontag is to give a brief explanation of what kind of features might be locked behind a paywall or an always-online DRM for individual products.

If there is something that you want to use as a potential source for an format article from the Consumer Rights Wiki please properly cite their work.

What features might be locked or tied down to a subscription service

Different versions of a product will have different features that require an online connection. In the worst-case scenario, these features could be tied down to a subscription service that requires users to pay monthly to use. Additionally, once these services cease to exist, the features tied to them will go away.

Archiving different versions of a product that are brought to different platforms and formats

Different products have different versions of a product and different formats/platforms that the product is manufactured for. I want this website to archive the different versions of a product and what kind of things have been added, are missing, or have been changed in a specific release. These can range from: censorship, features removed, changes, issues that occur while using the specific version of a product, additions to the product, downloadable content that might be available, etc.

Creating Specific Information on How to Fix a Version of a Product

With some software, appliances, games, etc. certain features will be lost to time due to the services being run out. One reason I created GoMontag was for archiving ways to be able to use these versions in the modern era or fix issues that were never fixed when the product was being worked on by the original creators. In the case of software applications for example, there can be patches that fix different bugs or for running the software on modern computer hardware.

What this site is not for

A place for product reviews

This site is mainly for archiving purposes and keeping information about the different versions of a product. If a user wants to warn about an issue regarding the version of a product that would cause issues with ownership, causes problems with using the version of a product, or have a fix for a version of a product they are more than welcome to write about it here. Please don't give your opinions about the Star Wars Prequels or Sequels here. Giving information about the formats they have been put on is more than welcomed however.

A place for piracy

Please do not go in and link to piracy sites that carry the product illegally. These can include and are not limited to:

  • Piracy Sites
  • Torrents
  • Rom sites
  • Abandonware Sites
  • Cloud Storage Folders containing Illegally Obtained Versions of Products

I understand in some cases that it is difficult for these products to be obtained in any other way. However, I am a single developer working on this site, so to avoid lawsuits I would appreciate it if links to these sites were not posted here.

Additionally, please avoid linking to the Internet Archive with materials that have been illegally posted there. The Internet Archive does wonderful work in making sure that websites, web materials, and media are archived for the public to enjoy. Please don’t get them into more trouble than they are already in.

AI generated or created media

AI generated content is infecting every corner of the internet, where large media corporations are being bought out and being forced to pump out AI generated content. To put it bluntly, I don’t like AI slop and I don’t see any real justification for it being on my site. It is clogging up search engine results, it’s aimed to replace human creativity and human purpose, the way that companies have implemented it has caused massive environmental impacts, the list goes on.

On products that use Generative AI for assistance

I will allow products or versions that use Generative AI for assistance. On the rule that the page for that product or format is labeled with Generative AI assistance and what it directly assists with, and that 15% or less of the content of that product is generated by the AI. If the product has replaced the Generative AI assets or assistance, what it assisted with will be updated but the label will remain.

A place for Internet Drama or Celebrity Gossip

Putting it bluntly again. I don’t care about what Tubadude said about Sewerdiver05, or what the latter said about anything political. Way too much of the internet, specifically YouTube in recent years, is focused on who said what or what someone did in a recent live stream. I want to avoid having that kind of stuff flood this site.

I understand that there are bad people. If it is a documentary on someone who is notorious, such as Sean Combs: The Reckoning, I will consider it. If someone who has a reputation for being an awful person tries to edit on GoMontag I or one of the moderators will do our best to remove them.

A place for Lets Plays, Blogs, Vlogs, or Such Content

I want to have a sense of quality control when it comes to archiving different products or media. Let’s Plays, Blogs, Vlogs, or such content are things that can be produced effortlessly and flood most video sites already. While I do want to have independent animation on this site, in addition to movies and documentaries, I’m going to be strict about what gets put up here.

On Official Uploads of Products on Video Sites Like YouTube

If a creator that has their products officially produced by a company, or is considered to be of quality, has their videos uploaded onto YouTube or another video hosting site then I will allow it to be posted on here in a format section of the site.

A Place for Explicit Content

Any kind of product with mature audiences in mind (18 years or older) must not contain any kind of explicit, pornographic, or fetish content. Mature products that are: rated for Mature Audiences (Rated R Movies, Rated MA Television Shows, M for Mature Games, Music with Explicit Lyrics, etc.) are allowed on GoMontag.

Anything that is notified to have explicit material will be reviewed and will be removed if found to be such by moderation.
